„Derjenige, der auf Dornen geht ist nicht gleich dem, der edle Pferde reitet"
Sie schrieben 'Umar – radiALLAHu anhu – einen Brief, in dem sie ihn fragten: „Wer ist besser: ein Mann, der keine Begierden hat und dem noch keine Begierden begegnet sind oder ein Mann, der mit seiner Seele gegen diese Begierden ankämpft bis er sie um Allahs willen aufgibt?" Daraufhin schrieb Umar zurück: „Wahrlich, derjenige, dessen Seele eine Sünde begehrt und sie dann um Allahs willen aufgibt ist von jenen „…deren Herzen Allah zur Gottesfurcht geläutert hat. Für sie ist Vergebung und ein gewaltiger Lohn (bereitet)." [al-Hujurat 49 Ayah 3]
Folglich, Allah prüft Seine gläubigen Diener mit der Liebe zu und der Sehnsucht nach Begierden und Sünden, ohne dass Er ihn zu einer Liebe führen möchte, die für ihn größer und besser, und nützlicher und dauerhafter als jene ist.
So lasse eine Person gegen sich kämpfen, um die Begierden um Seinetwillen aufzugeben, sodass diese Hingabe ihn zum Geliebten, dem Hocherhabenen führen kann.
Jedes Mal, wenn seine Seele mit ihm kämpft, um ihn zu Begierden und Sünden zu führen, erhöht sich seine Sehnsucht und sein Wunsch danach, dann wird er sich von diesem starken Bedürfnis abwenden und sich einer erhabeneren Art von Liebe zuwenden, die dauerhaft bleibt. Sein Streben nach dieser (gewaltigeren) Liebe wird stärker und seine Begierde danach vollkommen.
Dies steht im Gegensatz zu der ruhigeren Seele, die leer ist und diesem Kampf nicht gegenübersteht, trotzdem hat sie auch ein erhabenes Ziel.
Es gibt einen gewaltigen Unterschied zwischen diesen beiden! Siehst du nicht, dass derjenige, der auf heißen Kohlen und Dornen zu seinem Geliebten geht, tugendhafter ist, als jener, der seinem Geliebten auf edlen Pferden entgegenreitet? Deshalb ist derjenige, der seinen Geliebten nach einem Kampf mit seiner Seele vorzieht nicht gleich dem, der seinen Geliebten ohne jegliche Anstrengung und jeglichen Kampf, um von anderen Dingen als Ihm wegzukommen, vorzieht.
Allah, der Hocherhabene, prüft Seine Diener mit Begierden, entweder damit sie ein Schleier gegen Ihn werden oder ein Schleier, um ihm zu helfen, Seine Zufriedenheit, Großzügigkeit und Nähe zu erreichen.
