Es ist der erste Europa-Besuch Al-Sisis als Staatsoberhaupt. Dabei kamen insbesondere das Zusammenleben zwischen Christen und Muslimen in dem arabischen Land sowie das Thema Religionsfreiheit zur Sprache . Der 60-jährige Al-Sisi, früher Oberbefehlshaber der ägyptischen Armee, war maßgeblich am Militärputsch gegen die Regierung der Muslimbrüder im Sommer 2013 beteiligt. Seit Juni 2014 ist er Präsident des Landes. Während seines zweitägigen Staatsbesuches in Italien trifft Al-Sisi mit Präsident Giorgio Napolitano und Ministerpräsident Matteo Renzi zusammen.
