Und meine Ummah wird sich in 73 Gruppen spalten." (*) In einer anderen Version verzeichnete Imam Ahmad, dass Abu Amir Abdullah bin Luhay sagte: "Wir vollzogen die Hajj mit Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan. Als wir Mekka erreichten, stand er auf, nachdem er das Dhuhr-Gebet verrichtete und sagte: "Der Gesandte Allahs (a.s.s.) sagte: "Die Leute der zwei Schriften spalteten sich in 72 Gruppen. Diese Ummah wird sich in 73 Gruppen spalten, alle werden ins Feuer gehen, außer einer, das ist die Jam'ah. Einige meiner Ummah werden von Neigungen geführt, wie jemand der von Tollwut infiziert ist; keine Ader und kein Gelenk wird vor diesen Neigungen geschützt sein." Dieser Hadith wurde auch von Abu Dawud (2/503), Ahmad (4/102) und Al-Haakim (1/128) und anderen überliefert, mit dem selben Wortlaut, aber mit folgender Ergänzung: "72 im Höllenfeuer und eine im Paradies: das ist die Jam'ah." Es ist wichtig, dass die Muslime diesen Hadith korrekt verstehen, da sonst große Missverständnisse entstehen können. Denn bereits in der Vergangenheit wurde dieser Hadith verwendet, um andere herabzuwürdigen. So haben einige, die dem Idschtihad von Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdul Wahhab folgen diejenigen, die seinem Idschtihad nicht folgen als welche bezeichnet, die zu den Gruppen gehören, die ins Höllenfeuer kommen. Einige, die der schafi'itischen Rechtsschule folgten sagten dies über die hanafitische Rechtsschule und andersrum. Der Hadith erwähnt das Wort "firqah"; dieses Wort ist ein Homonym (lafz mushtaraq) - also ein Wort, das je nach Kontext eine andere Bedeutung hat.
